The benefits of balancing the diet with acidic & alkaline foods

If you often feel heavy in your body, suffer from headaches, get sick again and again or are just very tired and listless, your body may be out of balance. The pH value means so much more than you might imagine and many diseases thrive better in acidic environments.

Eating more basic food means that you help the body to keep its pH value in balance. A tip is to try to eat 70 percent basic food and 30 percent acid-forming. A good rule of thumb is also to eat more fruit and vegetables.

What are acidic and basic foods?

Eating according to the food's PH value means that the food is divided into acidic, neutral and basic. Research shows that there can be benefits to eating food that has a basic PH value, i.e. a value above seven on the scale

Sour food: Food containing sugar, milk, gluten, semi-finished and processed food, meat, fish, coffee, alcohol, soft drinks, sweets, chips and the like.

Basic food: E.g. vegetables, fruit, nuts, seeds and legumes. You might think lemon belongs to an acidic diet, but it is one of the most basic things you can eat. So a good tip is to drink lemon water daily.

Benefits of an alkaline diet

A balanced diet with more basic foods than acidic can have several health benefits, including:

  • Normal Digestion: An alkaline diet can help reduce inflammation and improve digestion.
  • Normal Kidney function: When we eat too much acidic food, our kidneys have to work harder to filter out the excess acid. An alkaline diet can reduce stress on the kidneys and improve their function.
  • Maintain the energy: An alkaline diet can help increase energy levels and improve fatigue and exhaustion.
  • Normal bone health: An alkaline diet can help prevent osteoporosis by reducing the amount of calcium eliminated from the body.
  • Increase resistance to chronic diseases: A balanced diet with more alkaline foods can help reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes.

Which foods are acidic or basic??

Knowing which foods are acidic or basic is essential to maintaining a balanced diet.

Here is a list of some common foods and how they affect the body's acid-base balance:

Basic foods

Vegetables (spinach, broccoli, cabbage), fruit (apples, bananas, oranges, lemon, blueberries), legumes (lentils, chickpeas), nuts (almonds, cashews), seeds (chia seeds, sunflower seeds).

Here are some recommendations on alkaline superfoods and their benefits that you can use in your daily diet:
