Inspiration from Blue Zones – lifestyle, food and superfood in everyday life
What can we learn about lifestyle, everyday food – and how superfood can fit in?
As a new year begins, a longing for change often arises – but perhaps above all for sustainable habits. Not quick fixes, but things that actually work in everyday life.
Around the world there are places where people live unusually long lives and enjoy a high quality of life. These areas are called Blue Zones and show that health is not created through perfection, but through simple choices repeated over time.
What are Blue Zones?
The concept of Blue Zones became well known through the work of Dan Buettner, who together with researchers identified five areas where the lifestyle differs clearly from modern, stressful everyday life:
- Okinawa – Japan
- Sardinia – Italy
- Ikaria – Greece
- Nicoya Peninsula – Costa Rica
- Loma Linda – USA
Despite major cultural differences, there are clear common features:
- The diet is largely plant-based
- The same ingredients are often used, in small amounts
- Meals are part of community
- Everyday life is shaped by rhythm rather than performance
Voices from the Blue Zones – everyday life before perfection
“We often eat the same things – but in different ways.” – older residents from Ikaria
“The food is simple, but it is always shared.” – family from Sardinia
The same message comes up again and again in interviews from Blue Zones:
it is consistency, not daily variety, that creates sustainability.
Plant-based simplicity – where superfood naturally fits in
In Blue Zones, the term superfood is not used – but the ingredients they eat are often nutrient-dense:
- Berries → natural sources of antioxidants and polyphenols
- Roots & fruits → contain carbohydrates, fiber and minerals
- Green plants & algae → provide minerals such as iron and magnesium
- Herbs & spices → used daily for flavor and variety
Superfood & berries products are designed to bring these types of ingredients together in an easy-to-use format, adapted to a modern everyday life – without replacing real food.
