Ashwagandha – the smart herb in your everyday life

One herb that has gained increasing attention in recent years is ashwagandha.

What is ashwagandha?

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is a root used in Ayurveda for millennia, but which is now also being studied in the West. It is often called an adaptogen – a plant that in various ways helps the body handle stressors.

Research shows, among other things, that ashwagandha can:

  • contribute to reduced stress levels and lowered cortisol (Lopresti et al., 2019)
  • improve sleep quality (Singh et al., 2021)
  • boost physical performance and endurance (Wankhede et al., 2021)
  • support focus and concentration (Choudhary et al., 2017)

At the same time, it's important to stress that results vary between studies, and that the herb is not a “quick fix”.

Stress and sleep problems are something many struggle with. That more people turn to herbs like ashwagandha is perhaps not surprising – it's about finding small, natural routines that make a difference in everyday life.

Important to know

Ashwagandha is usually well tolerated, but side effects can occur and the herb can interact with certain medications. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should avoid use. Always discuss with a doctor if you are unsure.
